Liability for content
The content of these pages was created with care. However, no guarantee can be given for the correctness, completeness and timeliness of the content – such as the opening names, ECO codes and move sequences. As a service provider I am responsible for my own content on these pages under the general laws.
Liability for links
These pages occasionally contain links to external websites of third parties on whose content I have no influence. The respective provider or operator is always responsible for this third-party content. At the time of linking no legal violations were recognizable; if they become known, such links will be removed immediately.
Copyright
The texts and the design of these pages are subject to German copyright law. For pictures, chess pieces and opening data the origins and licences named under picture credits and licences apply.
Pictures
The picture on the home page (Aristotle at the chessboard), the logo, the favicon and the picture on the pages still being built (Aristotle designs a home page) are generated with artificial intelligence (Nano Banana 2.1). They are artistic depictions, not historical portraits.
The pictures on the cards of the home page (My files, Compare, Tournaments, World championships) are generated with artificial intelligence (ChatGPT, Google Flow).
Chess pieces
The pieces on the chessboards are the piece set “cburnett” by Colin M. L. Burnett, as also used on lichess. They are under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later, and are used unchanged.
Licence text: GPL-2.0.txt
Openings
The opening tree, the opening net and the book are based on 3,815 openings with their codes according to the ECO classification (Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings). Names and move orders come from the collection chess-openings by Lichess, which is in the public domain (CC0 1.0).
Game data
The games of the player collections come from the data source “Chess Database” by Ana Schaigorodsky (2016), published on Figshare: Figshare Chess Database. It is under the licence Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).
The data were modified for our own use: the collections of 1,509 players were selected, the files renamed; games without moves and games from a handicap position are not shown. An overview of all collections is on the page Database.
In addition there are 103,010 tournament games of the years 2012–2022 from The Week in Chess (TWIC), which we show on this website with the permission of TWIC – in the collections of 138 players, without online games and without games already in the database of Ana Schaigorodsky. On the website they are marked “from TWIC”.
Learning studio and training
The courses in the learning studio and the training are based on the games of the collections (see game data) and on evaluations by the chess engine Stockfish 19 (GNU General Public License, version 3), computed in advance. The explanatory texts of the courses were written with the help of artificial intelligence. They reflect Stockfish's evaluations but may contain mistakes.
Chess engine
The analysis “Stockfish live”, which can be switched on on some pages, uses Stockfish in the version stockfish.js 19 (Stockfish 19 lite, WebAssembly). It is under the GNU General Public License, version 3, is delivered unchanged and runs entirely in the visitors' browser; no data is transmitted.
